About This Project

In partnership with Coury Properties, Sunflower Development Group has now opened The Ambassador Hotel Kansas City in the historic Gate City National Bank building at 1111 Grand Boulevard. Oklahoma-based Coury Properties, which operates the Ambassador Hotel Collection, led the transformation of the six-story neoclassical structure with the distinctive columns to a 43-room luxury bou ique hotel. A top-to-bottom interior renovation redeveloped the building, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, into a space that preserves the classic vestiges of the old bank, including a marble foyer, the fireplace, and a lobby with 20-foot-high ceilings.

"We only renovate historic properties, so when I found this building, I knew it would be a perfect fit for the Ambassador Collection of hotels, and for bringing a high-class, sophisticated boutique hotel to Downtown Kansas City,"

said Paul Coury, president of the Tulsa-based Ambassador Hotel Collection. The new Ambassador Hotel opened 92 years after the building at 1111 Grand first came to life as a bank in 1920.
