New apartment development proposal for Streetcar Lofts near Union Hill

A new apartment complex, Streetcar Lofts, is set to enhance Kansas City’s southern streetcar extension near Union Hill and Martini Corner, bringing 240 modern apartments to the area.

Developed by Sunflower Development Group LLC, this project will replace grass lots along a 0.2-mile stretch of 31st Street and features five five- to six-story buildings, each with 48 units. The development will also include 210 garage spaces for residents and aim to incorporate exterior brick and stone to complement the local architecture. Principal Jason Swords envisions Class A amenities such as a pool and fitness center for future residents.

The City Plan Commission is scheduled to review the development plans and a rezoning request for Streetcar Lofts in early November, with construction anticipated to begin in the second quarter of next year. Estimated to cost $50 million, this project will join other active apartment developments along the southern streetcar route, set to open in early 2025, and significantly enhance the vibrancy of Midtown Kansas City.
