Kansas City-based Sunflower Development Group has announced plans to revitalize the Mission Mart Shopping Center in downtown Mission with a $3.5 million renovation. Proposed upgrades include roof and HVAC repairs, facade enhancements, refreshed landscaping, and lighting improvements to the iconic central archway. The developer also aims to fill vacancies with new tenants while maintaining the charm of existing businesses like The Peanut. Sunflower plans to create a Community Improvement District (CID) to fund the project, adding a 1% sales tax for purchases at the shopping center starting in July 2025. This initiative aligns with Sunflower’s commitment to strengthening the Mission area.
