Sunflower Opens La Quinta on Troost Avenue

Sunflower’s newest hotel project, the La Quinta Del Sol on Troost Avenue, was recently featured by CityScene KC. This $16 million development continues the momentum of new investment in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, which has seen new construction and historic renovation projects over the last few years.

Our team was attracted to Troost Avenue after speaking with Truman Medical Center CEO John Bluford, who pointed out the lack of quality hotel options for those visiting friends and family in the hospital. 

Bringing this hotel online was far from easy, however. Troost Avenue has historically been associated with Kansas City’s racial divide and the resulting stigma has kept many developers and investors from the neighborhood. Still, we knew the area had immense potential and that a hotel would be successful here. 

The hotel opened earlier this month and we could not be more thrilled with the reception from the community. The La Quinta Del Sol, one of the first to be built in the country, features a large fitness center, meeting space and great views of downtown Kansas City. It also features two ground-level retail spaces, which we plan to lease to a coffee shop to better serve the neighborhood.
