Sunflower Announces Uptown Hotel Development

Sunflower Development Group

Following the successful groundbreaking of our Uptown Lofts project in Midtown Kansas City, Sunflower is excited to announce plans for a hotel on the property. The hotel will be located at the corner of Valentine and Broadway, and construction is now entering the early stages.

The project will consist of a 95- to 120-room hotel that replaces much of the existing Uptown Shoppes development. We have applied for a boutique hotel under the Marriott brand to operate the property, and we are optimistic that it will be approved in the coming months. As part of the deal, the Planned Industrial Expansion Authority has approved us for a 25-year property tax abatement and sales tax exemption on construction supplies.

Uptown Lofts is a 245,000 square foot mixed-use development in Midtown that will reflect the neighborhood’s continued growth and success. It will include both one- and two-bedroom units, plus premium amenities, such as a dog park, hot tub and coffee bar.

The hotel will complement the Uptown Lofts development by attracting a unique group of young travelers who are interested in exploring a lesser-known corner of Kansas City. Our vision for the entire Uptown development is a vibrant district of quality housing, distinct dining and lively entertainment.
