Sunflower Development Group is pursuing tax incentives for a second phase of apartments at the former Mission Bowl site in Mission, Kansas. The first phase, The Lanes at Mission Bowl Apartments, is nearing completion with 168 units, and the proposed second phase aims to add 96 apartments along with retail space. The City Council is considering creating a tax increment financing (TIF) district to support the development.

Sunflower Development Group is advancing plans for a second phase of apartments at the former Mission Bowl site in downtown Mission, Kansas. After the original bowling alley was condemned and demolished, Sunflower initially developed a five-story, 168-apartment building known as The Lanes at Mission Bowl Apartments, set to finish construction by September.

The proposed second phase involves a $22.6 million investment to construct another five-story building with 96 apartments, podium parking, and ground-floor retail space for a coffee shop or cocktail lounge. Sunflower seeks to establish a new tax increment financing (TIF) district to help fund this expansion, similar to the approach taken for the first phase approved in 2020. The City Council is expected to consider formalizing this incentive district through a public hearing in August.
