Kansas City is set to gain hundreds of new apartments by 2027 along the expanding streetcar corridor, with Port KC-approved tax breaks supporting three developments, including the ambitious Streetcar Lofts by Sunflower Development Group.
Kansas City’s Port Authority has approved tax incentives for Sunflower Development Group’s Streetcar Lofts, a significant residential project along the expanding streetcar corridor. The development will replace existing parking lots and vacant land near Martini Corner with five five-story buildings, adding 240 apartments to the area. The unit mix includes 55 studios, 135 one-bedrooms, and 50 two-bedrooms. Port KC has authorized up to $70 million in bonds for the project, which could offer approximately $9.37 million in property tax exemptions over 20 years.
Additionally, Sunflower Development Group will contribute $750,000 to the Kansas City Housing Trust Fund, potentially facilitating the creation of 55 affordable housing units. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025, with completion expected by 2027.
