Market Spotlight: Kansas City

Atlas Lofts renovation

Kansas City is one of our favorite places to create community. It’s where we got our start and it’s where we’ve called home ever since. As the city’s real estate market continues to thrive, we’re proud to be on the forefront as we fill the city with exciting places to live, work and play. Today we’re spotlighting some of our favorite projects in Kansas City and highlighting their impact on the region.

The Grand

At the corner of 12th and Grand, just beside our Ambassador Hotel, you’ll find The Grand. This 21-story mid-century tower was a monumental redevelopment effort for our team. Combining commercial, retail and residential space, The Grand has something for everyone, making it an ideal fixture for the city’s bustling Power and Light entertainment district.

The Sunflower team led financing and development for this ambitious project. Most notably, we worked with the National Parks Service to grant the building historic status. This allowed us to pursue the Historic Tax Credits needed to finance the project and improve its profitability for our partners. The Grand is evidence of our commitment to urban development in Kansas City.

La Quinta, Beacon Hill

Sunflower is proud to be building the soon-opening La Quinta in Kansas City’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. The area, which hadn’t seen new commercial development in over 50 years, was in desperate need of rejuvenation. Our team responded with development knowledge and financial expertise needed to get the project off the ground by securing $9.2 million in New Market Tax Credits and Property Tax Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing.

This hotel is a great example of our team’s ability to solve real needs in the Kansas City community. We knew Beacon Hill was home to a high-traffic hospital, but it didn’t offer adequate lodging for the thousands of people who visit every year. Now with a high-quality option, the area is primed for significant future growth.

Atlas Lofts

The Atlas Lofts are a perfect reflection of our team’s talent for developing pristine housing in historic spaces. We converted the former storage building into 16 luxury apartment units offering some of the best views and amenities in Kansas City.

Our team secured a significant amount of Historic Tax Credits in order to fund the $8 million renovation. This project speaks to our expertise developing high-end residential real estate and fostering community in the heart of Kansas City.
